Employment in the Insurance Sector companies is categorised into 4 major classes. Class I :- Administrative Officers (AO`s) and Assistant Administrative Officers (AAO`s). The AAO`s can select their specialised field from the following 3 areas :-

(1) Administration :- It mainly deals with maintaining claims within permitted limits.

(2) Development :- It deals with procuring prospective clients, promoting policies and procuring contracts.

(3) Accounts :- It deals with management of funds and their disbursal including staff salaries.

Class II :- A Class II (Development Officer) is responsible for overall development and sale of insurance policies in the jurisdiction in which he is appointed. They also have to recruit and train agents for procuring business. These agents can be promoted as a Development Officer.

Class III and IV :- They are the assistants, stenographers, typists, machine operators, telephone operators and record clerks.

Agents :- Agents are recruited by development officers.

Surveyors of Insurance :- Surveyors of Insurance are not employees of the insurance companies. They are specialists who are engaged to assess losses. The surveyor needs to hold a licence.

Actuaries :- Actuaries basically evaluate the risks and in accordance to the proportion of hazard they calculate the premium.
